Improving fish passage is a straightforward restoration action allowing federally listed and other aquatic species to access habitat and move freely in streams and rivers. For the past number of years, Cascade Fisheries (CF)  worked with landowners and residents in Derby Canyon to improve connectivity of Derby Creek. This important work took years of coordination, trust building and leveraging resources.

As of December 2020, CF has corrected nine barriers, contains resources to fix three more, and has applied for funding to correct seven others. This year CF addressed two barriers, the lower one was a complete barrier that was replaced with a box culvert, and the upper barrier was a partial barrier that was removed completely. Additionally, Chelan County Natural Resource Department is pursuing work on the lower most barrier at a railroad crossing.
