Information on regional escapement and population runs sizes is shown below. These graphs are interactive (e.g. you can filter by a specific population and view data via hover). Data is from WDFW and Grant PUD (via Columbia River DART) and accessible by clicking on the links or graphs. Graphs were developed by UCSRB.
Live Fish Data - Daily Fish Counts
This figure displays real-time fish returns to Priest Rapids Dam by year. Adult fish counting at Priest Rapids Dam starts in mid-April. The previous year’s returns will be displayed until counting begins for that year. DATA SOURCE: Columbia River DART.
Year-to-Year Adult Returns
These graphs show annual adult returns for Upper Columbia spring Chinook salmon (ESU) and Upper Columbia summer steelhead (DPS) from 1998 to present. Bars represent the number of adults of natural and hatchery origin returning each year, while the line shows the total number of returning adults (natural plus hatchery).
ESUs (Evolutionarily Significant Units) and DPSs (Distinct Population Segments) are the units used under the federal Endangered Species Act to assess status and guide recovery planning. Displaying returns at this scale provides a basin‑wide view of overall abundance trends and long‑term progress toward recovery. DATA SOURCE: WDFW SPI.
These graphs show adult returns for individual Upper Columbia populations, allowing a closer look at trends within specific river systems. Use the drop‑down menu to view a single population at a time. As in the ESU/DPS graphs, bars show natural‑ and hatchery‑origin adults by year, and the line shows the total number of returning adults.
The horizontal dashed line represents a target de‑listing abundance for natural‑origin fish in each population. These benchmarks illustrate approximate recovery goals commonly used in ESA recovery planning and are intended for context. Reaching or sustaining these levels may indicate progress toward biological recovery, but population status is evaluated using multiple indicators in addition to abundance. DATA SOURCE: WDFW SPI.
